On the brink of summer Carlos has got a last minute gig at the mighty SILVER DOLLAR tomorrow night (Friday may 18), with Living Room and others.
It is a pre-show (NeXT-at-NXNE ) for the North by North East Showcase, and if things go well we will get a slot for the Festival. So we are calling for everyone and anyone who wants to check out what we've been up to as of late to come and see us play at 10:30. For those of you who havent seen us yet, or even if you have, we are presenting a whole new set of tunes, based on our developing electro-glitch-freak-rock-thingy sound. very excited. It will be similar to what we just played in New York at the BENT festival last month. We have CDs available now too, they will be there at the show. Cover is a measly $5 and there is a guest list so let us know if you want to be on it and we will see what we can do. The Silver Dollar is at 486 Spadina (at College).
PS >> Does anyone have a video projector they could lend us for the performance?
Finally got our performance from New York encoded and uploaded. enjoy.
PART 1
After the first song we activate the video backdrop that was prepared using footage from Mikes 16mm Film archive. We were quite pleased at how it all lined up with the music.
After our last song the PA music gets turned on as ppl approach the table, and does anyone know what song is playing? It sounds very sonic youth with that NY sound but I'm sure its not them..
Excellent times. Response was terrific to both our performance and to my visual installation. we sold a box of CDs and 80% of the art. Plus countless good times in NY & Jersey with the boys and my girl. Would do it again fo'sho.
"The Bent Festival is a three day event celebrating the art of modifying existing circuits (and creating new ones!) for the purpose of creating music, art, and mischief. There are performances from musicians who incorporate these circuits into their live act, art installations made from these circuits, and workshops showing you how to do it yourself. The festival is all about reappropriating existing technologies - hacking apart old toys, building new ones from old parts - to create something fun and new and STRANGE."
Also I am hanging some new works there, involving electronics & organic matter embedded in resin on wood panels. I can't wait to go to the workshops and learn some new tricks. It should be a fucking blast..
I've had this b/w TV knocking around for a while. picked it up second hand for $4.99, had to have it 'cause it was bright orange. So the other night I finally bent it into a wobblevision, 'TangerVene'. Fitted with a 1/4" guitar-style jack, plugging in an audio source makes it bounce and react to the sound/music.
Quite happy with it, tho I wish I made it with a switch to return it to 'normal' reception when desired. Didn't want to mess with what I knew would work, I've heard how dangerous this project can be. Anyway right after I shot this:
had some fun with the editing, i wish youtube was in higher res for the light show. considering bringing this to the NYC bentfest if I can fit it in the van with the rest of the gear.
hey if anyone out there got the scarborough mirror paper today, could you put it aside for me? theres a piece in it about the show this weekend at the guild inn grounds, I've been interveiwed. got me talkin scarlem talk.
I doubt it would have to be disassembled..or refinished for that matter. I also know of an *insured* piano moving company that will do it for half of what this person is quoting it would take.
